WandEvent : “Afro-Polis” Pop-Up Experience, until 8 October 2013 – Paris

To mark the birth of this exciting venture, the Afro-Polis Pop-Up Experience comes to Paris for two weeks only – from 25 September to 8 October 2013.

September 2013 sees the launch of Afro-polis.com – an innovative digital platform celebrating contemporary Africa. The website is an interactive hub for original stories from the continent and its diaspora and delves deeply into African-inspired fashion, music, art, litterature, film, food and design.

From Lagos to Nairobi, from Cairo to Cape Town, and beyond Africa to cities such as Rio, Kingston, New-York, Paris and London, Afro-Polis brings together global voices, trends and issues that reflect upon the many wonders of this vast, diverse and rich continent.

Afro-Polis also aims to create a multi-dimensional exploration and critical discovery of Africa’s cultural DNA by fostering a participatory forum via events, talks and exhibitions as well as a bi-annual journal.

AfropolisThe Afro-Polis Pop-Up Experience comes to Paris from this 25 September to 8 October 2013. Encompassing a multi-brand showroom, a boutique, an exhibition and events space, a restaurant, a coffee shop and a library, the A-P Pop-Up Experience is creating a rich and stimulating environment where to learn, explore and get inspired !

The A-P Pop-Up Experience will fuse fashion, debate, art, food, live music and DJ sets with confirmed guests including Patrice, Baloji, Faada Freddy and many more. Afro-Polis invites international fashion professionals, African dandies, jet-setters and cool kids to this series of special events in true celebration of the global African way of life.

Having hosted successful Paris Fashion Week parties for the last two seasons, Afro-Polis now ventures further with the Pop-Up Experience spread across four venues along the rue du Vertbois in the heart of the city’s hippest quarter, the Marais. In the spirit of an African village, the interiors of the venues will be transformed into a series of vignettes, each one re-imagining the unique energy and atmosphere of an African maquis (popular informal street restaurant / disco).

Headed by its founder, artistic director Pierre-Christophe Gam, the Afro-Polis editorial team is composed of informed, talented journalists, critics and artists who share a curious eye and deep passion for the continent. Together they invite you to set your clock on the African time…
